Newberry College to Host Commencement Events May 7

Newberry College President Dr. Maurice W. Scherrens will confer approximately 150 undergraduate degrees when it bids farewell and good luck to the graduating seniors of the Class of 2016 on Saturday, May 7. Tomorrow's Spring Commencement will be streamed at 1:45 p.m. ET at www.NewberryWolves.tv
Baccalaureate: Students and their families will attend the Baccalaureate service of worship on May 7, at 11 a.m., in Wiles Chapel.
Commencement: Students and their families will attend the spring commencement ceremony on May 7, at 2 p.m., in Eleazer Arena on the Newberry campus. A reception will follow commencement on the Yost Portico at Holland Hall.
During the Commencement ceremony, Newberry College will announce the recipients of the following awards:
Dr. Grady L. Cooper Award – Named in honor of the long-serving professor of Religion and Greek, the award is given annually to one student and one faculty member selected by the senior class who exemplify Cooper’s qualities of loyalty and devotion to Newberry College.
Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award – A scholarship awarded to an outstanding graduating male student based on his personal character, integrity and service to others and to their community.
Mary Mildred Sullivan Award – A scholarship awarded to an outstanding graduating female student based on her personal character, integrity and service to others and to their community.
George B. Cromer Award – Named in honor of the former Newberry College president who served 1895 – 1904, the award recognizes a graduating senior who exemplifies Cromer’s own qualities of academic excellence, leadership ability and personal integrity.
