November 27, 2011
Newberry, SC, November 28, 2011 Jennifer Morrison, Newberry College Associate Professor of Education, has continued expanding the reach of the Colleges educational ecosystem through guest appearances and presentations at national events for educational leaders. Most recently, she gave a presentation at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Fall Conference on Teaching and Learning.
Her presentation, Building Teacher Effectiveness through Data and Assessment Literacy, discussed ways for educators to improve their methods through the development of data and assessment literacy. With many schools focusing on standardized testing, Morrison discussed the ways in which teachers can use data within the classroom to create student-centered learning and make connections between assessment, data, and teacher effectiveness.
Newberry has given me the opportunity to further my research in the areas of data, assessment, teacher leadership, and Web 2.0 technology for educators, Morrison said. We do more than just educate in the classroom, but bring our expertise across the nation to events like these, and furthermore, learn some new tactics to help make our education program one of the best in South Carolina.
Morrison is also the Assistant Director of the RETAIN Center of Excellence, a program funded through the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education to improve teacher retention in the State. She will be present a several upcoming events, including the Title I Professional Development Conference and the ASCD Winter Institute.
