NEWBERRY APPOINTS TANIKA BEARD AS REGISTRAR

June 12, 2018

Tanika L. Beard has joined Newberry College as Registrar effective June 1, replacing Carol Bickley, who served at Newberry for 50 years, including 35 years as Registrar.

Beard will be the administrator who is responsible for overseeing class registration and scheduling, maintaining the academic records of all students and preparing information such as academic honors lists, eligibility for graduation and transcripts.

“Having served in several different roles in the Registrar’s office at different institutions, Tanika brings valuable fresh perspectives to her new role at Newberry,” said Dr. Sid Parrish, Vice President for Academic Affairs (interim). “We look forward to seeing Tanika use her knowledge and expertise to support our ongoing efforts to create a highly student-centered environment.”

Beard comes to Newberry from Paine College in Augusta, Ga., where she served first as Transcript and Records Coordinator starting in 2013 before assuming the role of Registrar in 2015. Prior to that, she served the Registrar’s office at Voorhees College, spending a year as an Administrative Assistant before she was promoted to Transcript and Graduation Coordinator, a role she held for three years.

Beard received an A.A. degree in Occupational Technology-Paralegal Studies from Aiken Technical College and earned her B.S. degree in Business Administration Management from Paine College. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and the Delta Mu Delta Honor Society.

“It is a privilege to join the Newberry College family as the new Registrar,” Beard said. “Looking ahead, our goal for the Office of the Registrar is to improve and streamline the day-to-day operations and processes to make it run as effectively as possible for students, faculty and staff. We will continue to focus on providing exceptional customer service to everyone as we embrace the mission of the College.”
