Marshall U Choir to Perform at Newberry
March 5, 2015
Newberry College will host a special performance by the Marshall University Chamber Singers on Monday, March 16, at 8 p.m., in Wiles Chapel. The group has performed multiple times in Piccolo Spoleto and sang at the Notre Dame Cathedral on a tour of France in 2013.
Known for singing music from a variety of styles and eras, featured composers in their performance include Brahms, Mozart, Ravel, Paulus and Vaughan Williams and others. A multiple-movement work, Jeffrey Vans A Procession Winding Around Me, serves as the centerpiece for the concert. It is a powerful setting of some of Walt Whitmans Civil War poetry for choir and classical guitar.
Dr. David Castleberry, a Charleston native and Furman University graduate, conducts the Marshall University Chamber Choir.
