Assistant Professor of History
Ph.D, University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Epting returned home to Newberry County in 2012 after completing her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania in History. Her dissertation addressed the history of war-related trauma diagnoses during the First and Second World Wars in the United States and Europe. Her research interests continue to focus on military psychiatry in the twentieth century, but she teaches a variety of topics.
Since becoming a member of the faculty, Dr. Epting has developed courses on World War I and World War II, sex and gender, drugs and alcohol, and madness and modernity. She also teaches a freshman Inquiry course on the historical significance and current cultural implications of monsters in society. Dr. Epting coordinates the College's Veteran's Program, which was recently ranked eleventh in the southeast in US News and World Report. She is also the 2013 recipient of the Sadie Crooks Award for service to the College.
